Dr. Sim Ruoh Hern

Dr. Sim completed his secondary education from Chung Hua Middle School Miri as the head boy of his year. He then obtained his dental qualification from University of Otago, New Zealand.

After graduation, he stayed in New Zealand and practiced general dentistry in Wellington as a full-time private general practitioner for 3 years.

He then practiced solely orthodontics alongside with an orthodontist in Hawkes Bay for 4 years before he returned to Miri, his hometown.

In 2007, he set up Bright Smile Dental Clinic with the vision of providing quality and gentle dental care to our patients in a clean and friendly environment.

His special interest is orthodontics and he continues to improve and upgrade his skills and knowledge in orthodontics by attending courses locally and overseas.

He and his wife, Elaine have two kids. In his free time, he enjoys jogging and playing badminton.

His dream is to see Dato’ Lee Chong Wei winning the first Olympic Gold for Malaysia.

Dr. Chai Pei Fang

Dr. Chai graduated from Chung Hua Miri Middle School as the fourth alumni of the team at our clinic. She also obtained a scholarship to complete her dental degree from the Manchester University in United Kingdom.

She proudly brought back what she learnt to her hometown Miri and utilized her skills very well in aesthetic dentistry like cosmetic composite build up, crown and bridgework.

She welcomes her patients with a smile and her caring approach makes her patients love to come back to see her.

Dr. Bong Chen Yong
 

DDS USU, IDN

Dr. Bong comes from Johor, West Malaysia. He graduated from University North Sumatra, Indonesia and he started his compulsory government service in Miri in 2013.

He was posted out to Hospital Mukah as dental officer and back to Miri again in the end of 2015. He loves this city and decided to settle down, joined our team in 2016.

He has special interest in minor oral surgery and endodontics.

Dr. Bong is also active in community service and medical outreach program. His main focus is on giving friendly and caring dental practice.

Dr. Ally Chai

Dr. Ally completed her Bachelor of Dental Surgery degree at the University of Otago, New Zealand in 2016. She then returned to Malaysia and served as a dental officer with the Ministry of Health before joining our team in 2018.

As a general dentist, she aims to provide holistic dental care, and to promote a good oral health through conservative and preventive approach. She finds great satisfaction in making dental experience a reassuring and positive one for dental anxious patients through her caring services.

She strongly believes in putting the patient first and listening to patient's concerns are important to ensure friendly and comfortable dental experience for patient of all ages.

Outside dentistry, she enjoys spending time with family and friends over good food.

Dr. Alice Tong

Dr. Alice Tong Yi Lin graduated from Chung Hua Middle School, Miri. After completing her Form 6, she pursued dentistry at Penang International Dental College, Malaysia. She has served in Ministry of Health over two years prior joining our clinic.

She enjoys helping patients solve their tooth-related problems while providing them a safe and comfortable environment. Meanwhile, she continuously seeks out training and professional development opportunities that allow her to remain aware and knowledge about new dental practices.

Dr. Alice is passionate in dental outreach programs in underserved communities and is keen in educating the public on general dental health.

During her free time, she enjoys baking, playing with her two dogs and improving her skills in bass.

Dr. Esther Tang

Dr. Esther, a Kuchingnite, obtained her Bachelor of Dental Surgery degree at Penang International Dental College, Malaysia in 2017.

She has received many academic awards in various subjects throughout university and was awarded Silver Medalist in her class.

She is a soft-spoken, caring and approachable general dentist, who has a special interest in minor oral surgery and restorative dentistry.

On her leisure days, she likes to take a stroll at the park, listen to music and read.

Dr. Amanda Liaw

Dr Amanda is a local Mirian who had graduated from Riam Road Secondary School.

She was once our patient who had received orthodontic treatment (also known as dental braces) in this clinic.

Having realised the impact and importance of a confidence smile, she decided to pursue her dream of becoming a dentist.

After obtaining her dental degree from International Medical University, Kuala Lumpur, she has decided to come back to her Miri to continue to serve the people in her hometown.

She has special interest in aesthetic dentistry which involves braces treatment, crowns, veneers and teeth whitening to make your smile look better.

Caring, humanity and dedication are the principles she hold on to while treating her patients.

At her free time, she enjoys food hunting at different cafes. You may bump into her at cycling studios after working hours as she enjoys indoor cycling as well.

Dr. Larry Yong

Dr. Larry is a local Mirian. He graduated as a dental surgeon from AIMST University(Malaysia) in 2021, served the government for a year and joined us in August 2023.

His special interests in dentistry include wisdom tooth removal surgeries, transforming smiles through smile makeovers, and implant dentistry.

Being a “social butterfly”, Dr Larry enjoys interacting and communicating with his patients to provide a comfortable dental visit experience for them. He is also very patient towards his kids patients, as he believes that love is patient.

Aside from work, he enjoys spending time with his loved ones, working out at the gym and playing badminton.

Dr. Chua Hui Jin - DDS USM, Malaysia

Dr. Chua is our longest serving dental associate since 2008. She graduated from Chung Hua Miri Middle School as the head girl of her year and pursued her tertiary education locally in Universiti Sains Malaysia. After obtaining her degree in dentistry in 2005, she decided to return to serve the Miri community and be close to her family. With her caring and compassionate motherly nature, she does her work in great detail and always listens to patients’ needs. She has special interest in dental implants and orthodontics and has been constantly upgrading her knowledge in dental implants and orthodontic treatment by attending courses locally and overseas. She received certificate in Oral Implantology by University of Frankfurt Germany and completed Osstem AIC Implant Advanced Training. She works closely with Dr. Sim in providing orthodontic care to our patients. She is happily married and is blessed with three lovely kids.

Dr. Alex obtained a scholarship to go to King’s College London for his Bachelor of Dental Surgery after finishing his high school in Chung Hua Middle School as the head boy of his year. He spent a few years practicing in private practices in Kuala Lumpur before joining us in 2014. He always delivers his work in a subtle and elegant manner and that makes him one of our highly sought-after dental associates. Over the years, he has developed a special interest in periodontal treatment ("gum treatment"), root canal treatment and dental implants. Because of his thoroughness and gentleness, he has built up a good reputation among the expat patients, mainly from Miri and Brunei. Please call us to make an appointment to see Dr. Alex, we are sure that you will be impressed with him.

Dr. Ang Cai Shan - BDS PIDC, Malaysia

Dr. Ang comes from Kelantan, West Malaysia. She graduated from Penang International Dental College Malaysia. After marrying to a local Mirian, she and her husband decided to settle down in Miri. Dr. Ang completed her compulsory government service in Miri before joining us in 2014. She is always recognised as a very sweet dentist in our clinic with her caring and friendly manner. She enjoys practising general dentistry and she also works closely with Dr. Sim in providing orthodontic care to our patients. Mr. Velson Chai - DDT Perth, Australia

Velson Chai is our In-House Dental Technologist who works together with our doctors to produce quality Dental Prosthesis, Orthodontic Appliances and Clear Aligners in our clinic. He is a local Mirian, after completing his high school in Chung Hua Middle School Miri, he pursued Dental Technology from Kingston College in Perth, Australia. His main interests are in digital dentistry such as Crown and Bridge work in single visit using the world famous Cerec System (CADCAM technology) and Clear Aligner Design and Production using 3 Shape’s Trios digital scanner and Orthodontic software and technology. He enjoys his work very much and is passionate about producing beautiful and quality Crown and Bridge work and Orthodontic Clear Aligners as well as Smile Makeover Design working alongside with our doctors. He actively participates in various workshops and seminars to receive the most up to date knowledges and skills in order to provide the best services to our patients. During his leisure, he enjoys playing badminton with friends, church activities and have a great time with family.

Ms. Ling Fung Ping - DDT Penang, Malaysia

Fung Ping has started her DDT at Penang Dental Training Centre under Ministry of Health after she completed her high school in SMK Saint Columba, Miri. She decided to join private sector where she saw a lot of new opportunities and challenges on exploring advance dental technologies. Thus, becoming part of Bright Smile thereafter. She covers area in Acrylic Denture, Valplast (Flexible Denture) and Orthodontic Appliances. She is an avid dental technician which is always trying to improve her skills by learning and exploring more advance dental technologies. In future, she would like to learn more in depth on digital denture, crown and bridge so she can master everything as a professional dental technician. Her dream as well is to improve herself more to achieve a successful and fulfilling career as a dental ceramist. In her personal free time, she would always spend quality time with her family, swimming, jogging and joining church activities.
